The Continental Grand Prix 4000S II 650c clincher is similar to the GP 4000, but the "S" stands for sport, special and "schwarz," the German word for black to describe the all black sidewall (with silver lettering). The GP 4000S II is fast and sticky, thanks to its state of the art Black Chili rubber compound. One of the most popular tires in our shop, the GP4000S II offers longevity and performance that is race worthy.
The Grand Prix 4000S II 650c uses Vectran, a liquid crystal polymer that is light, flexible and strong. NASA has used it in the construction of both space shuttles and suits. Continental has patented its use in bike tires, which allows their tires to remain extremely light, while offering tremendous puncture protection.
Like its predecessor, the II version is one of the few tires on the market that features both low rolling resistance data and high puncture protection. Continental has improved the Black Chili compound 3-4% per year so this latest model has even better wet and dry weather adhesion, durability, and longevity. The latest compound is also more resistant to UV rays, helping prevent tire cracking. This 23mm wide 650c tire is a shop favorite for high mileage training and racing.
